Does technical Analysis apply to indexes?
Hi. just curious... but does technical analysis apply to indexes like say the dow jones or s& p500? i noticed that during regular day trading hours the dow futures YMM13 moves in exactly the same pattern as the dow jones DJIA . Probably traders are using arbitrage to reflect the Dow average. But after regular day market hours, when the futures continue, they move based on how traders trade using technical analysis. That's just what i noticed... but am i wrong? Now that's assuming no further BIG influencing news regarding the economy appears during after hours.

OK so i'm novice position trader or swing trader whatever it's called. I know i'm supposed to check the indices or sectors that the stock belongs to, to keep a better eye on the sentiments regarding the stock. But what do I check the sector or the indices? AND if a stock belongs to more then one indices which ones are the ones i'm supposed to check. for ex. Visa is " consumer financial" in " financial sector" in NYSE. So what do i check the " consumer finance" index or the financial sector in NYSE? Thanks again.
